The Music
Pianist Ron Kobayashi, backed by bassist Baba Elefante and percussionist Steve Dixon, plays with a wealth of contemporary passion and sometimes fury on the nine cuts, all originals by himself and Elefante. Kobayashi’s deft, fluid style brings to mind the best of David Benoit, Chick Corea and, at times even Bruce Hornsby. Baba Elefante’s fretless bass is a consistent wonder, his solos displaying all the singing sonority that his instrument can offer.

Steve Dixon is a sensitive yet propulsive drummer, always spurring the music onward, changing in timbre according to the need.

The Ron Kobayashi Trio consists of three uniquely talented musicians from the Southern California area. Each musician brings with him years of diverse musical experiences.

Pianist and leader Ron Kobayashi has performed with Mel Torme, Ray Brewster and the Cadillacs, Eric Marienthal, Phil Upchurch and the Modernaires. He has also been featured on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.

Bassist and composer Baba Elefante was voted one of the nation’s top bass players in a Bass Player Magazine poll. He also performed on the 1995 Universal movie, "The Hunted", as well as with jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove and Kansas lead vocalist John Elefante.

Drummer Steve Dixon has done numerous recordings both as a drummer and percussionist. He has worked with jazz saxophonist Richie Cole and Warner Brother's recording artists "The Untouchables."

The Music
In a departure from the more straight ahead style of the Ron Kobayashi Trio, Second Story gravitates more into the realms of jazz fusion. The intrigue of Second Story lies in the uniqueness of style that every member contributes to the project; each with his own signature style building a sound that becomes "one" to the listener.

Second Story is a high-energy five-piece jazz group based in Southern California. With keyboardist Ron Kobayashi and bassist Baba Elefante from the Ron Kobayashi Trio, Second Story also includes:

Steve Hommel on saxes. Steve has performed with Anita O’Day, Brandon Fields, Brian Auger, The Coasters and the Drifters. He wrote musical arrangements for the special orchestra for Pope John Paul’s Northern California address. Steve has recorded soundtracks for the NBC series "Another World".

Dave Murdy on guitars. Dave was the original guitarist for Kilauea, with whom he recorded three CDs. Dave’s solo CD, That Goes To Show You, has received rave reviews from jazz critics. Dave has performed with Warren Hill, Alphonse Mouzon and Brian Bromberg.

Ronnie Ciago on drums and percussion. Ronnie is one of the most in-demand studio drummers in Los Angeles. He recently recorded CDs with Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones and Bill Ward of Black Sabbath. His is also performing and recording with Patrick Moraz of Yes.
